Andrés is a master shoemaker with a small shop in the village of Nagarote in Nicaragua. When his daughter came to him complaining that her doctor-prescribed insoles weren't helping her heel pain, he asked to see the insoles.
It was obvious to his experienced eye that her insoles provided only a slight cushion effect for the whole foot and didn’t relieve the heel. He studied the pain "hot point" on his daughter's foot and it came to him that raising the heel on the outside of the insole would relieve pressure on the center of the heel where the pain was at its worse. Working on this theory, he created a pair of insoles that enabled his daughter to walk without pain or a limp within just two hours of placing them in her shoes.
Andrés crafts each insole by hand, without big, fancy machinery or electric-powered tools. His is a shop run on craftsmanship and knowledge! Heel-Well has an exclusive agreement with Andrés to sell his insoles in the U.S. through this website.
Andrés cuts out the basic insole from a roll of polyurethane using a paper pattern he developed from making shoes in many different sizes.
He hand-forms the heel inserts from rubber and felt, and attaches them to the insoles. He assembles the insoles on a foot-powered treadle sewing machine. Each pair of insoles is custom made!
